Bauchi—The Bauchi State government yesterday said rapid Ebola response centres had been established in... the state as part of measures to forestall any outbreak of the virus in the state.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Sani Malami, told newsmen while dismissing rumours of Ebola outbreak.
The commissioner said the two rapid response centres were established in Bauchi and Azare for any emergency and assured that there was no cause for alarm, since the state had not recorded any case of the disease.
According to Dr. Malami, “there is no iota of truth in the rumour of an outbreak of Ebola in the state. It is the handiwork of those who do not wish the state and its people well. There is no truth again in the messages that to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus people should bath with salty water as well as drink same. Such a development will only put many people in danger particularly those that are kidney patients or hypertensive.
“The dreaded disease for now has not spread to other parts of the country but remain in Lagos where health authorities have confirmed the death of two medical personnel who attended to late Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who died of the infection few weeks ago.”
The commissioner, however, appealed to rumour mongers to desist from spreading such dangerous rumours which could lead to the sudden death in some cases, considering the health status of some of the people who could receive such information.
He said: “If there will be any information about Ebola outbreak in Bauchi State, it will come officially from the Government and through the Ministry of Health which is saddled with the responsibility of taking care of the health issues of the people of the state.”
