Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has been touted as the likely running mate for APC Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari. While many strongly believe that Amaechi would be a good choice; I firmly disagree.
Last week, Noble Laureate, Wole Soyinka described President Goodluck Jonathan as a modern-day “Nebuchadnezzar”, however I believe the title rightly belongs to Governor Amaechi.
Presently in Rivers state, other than the executive arm of government all others are basically non-functional. The state judiciary has been on strike for over 6 months because of Governor Amaechi’s highhandedness and insistence of having everything his way.
The Governor has insisted on appointing his own Chief Judge other than follow the recommendation of the National Judicial Council, NJC. Judicial activities in Rivers state remain grounded while the governor has a field day throwing tantrums.
Also, the Rivers state house of Assembly is still under lock and key, one year after a major crisis rocked the arena. Lawmakers loyal to Governor continue to hold sittings at the Government house while the governor does nothing to resolve the crisis.
Amaechi cannot effectively run Rivers state, i thereby declare him unfit for the peoples' general.
Buhari does not need a vice president who will over shadow him, he needs one who will happily stay in the background. To Amaechi, there is no such thing as background, the Governor lives for the cameras.
Buhari is surrounded by enough controversy and does not need a man like Amaechi to add to the mess. What Buhari needs is a level headed running mate with a good media image.
Dear Buhari, Amaechi is bad market...Please don't buy.
